"It must just be a coincidence," Lin Shen didn't give it much thought, and whatever the Jade Emperor did made him quite unhappy.

The matters here had come to a conclusion, and if there were any gains to be made, they could only be found in the trial left by the Little Wine Emperor.

Tian Xun had no time for the trial now and could only lead a few people back the way they came.

Before leaving, Tian Xun also had Ye Kong and the others lead the way to the place where Chi 118 and Chi 96 had been killed. There, they indeed saw the bodies of the two, their heads burst open by sonic wave power, leaving only headless corpses.

Regrettably, their Life Bases had escaped, and there were no Nirvana Remains or such found on them.

Tian Xun helped collect their bodies and returned to Paradise Island with the headless corpses.

Ye Kong and the others were temporarily placed in custody. Tian Xun's intention was for Lin Shen to return to Sky Pinnacle Star as soon as possible to report back to the Heavenly Emperor, to prevent any further mishaps.

Lin Shen, of course, listened to Tian Xun, and after the dark night ended, he took all the items and Kong Chuan with him back to Sky Pinnacle Star.

Following Tian Xun's instructions, Lin Shen presented to the Heavenly Emperor all the resources he had extorted from Chi 118 and An 117, along with those he and Tian Xun had raided together, with the exception of those he kept for himself.

Tian Congyun, who was tasked with liaising with Lin Shen, showed a hint of surprise when he saw the resources Lin Shen had brought back.

He hadn't expected Lin Shen to have obtained resources from An 117 and Chi 118 so quickly.

Originally, he thought that Lin Shen would probably not be able to get anything and that it was very likely Tian Xun had paid on his behalf.

To his surprise, Lin Shen had really gotten them back, and so swiftly at that.

Just as Tian Congyun was about to praise Lin Shen, Lin Shen led him to another warehouse. Stored there were the items looted from the private treasuries of An 117 and Chi 118.

"This... this... where did all this come from..." Tian Congyun's eyes widened in shock.

"Steward Yun, these are the items I've taken back from the private treasuries of An 117 and Chi 118," Lin Shen said, leaving Tian Congyun feeling as if he'd been struck by lightning.

"What in the world? Taken back... taken back from someone's private treasury..." Tian Congyun looked at Lin Shen, dumbfounded, his gaze akin to that of someone looking at a madman.

The An and Chi families were related to An 117 and Chi 118, who were also subordinates of the Celestial Court. Lin Shen had audaciously raided our treasuries. Such an act—even the Heavenly Emperor couldn't protect him for this, and the Celestial Court would certainly not turn a blind eye.

Tian Congyun believed this man was done for, he would definitely die a horrible death, and it was possible the incident of the previous Dean being executed could replay with him.

"Steward Yun, please do not misunderstand, I merely plundered amid chaos. Aside from you, me, and the Lord Heavenly Emperor, no one knows these items are in my possession..." Lin Shen recounted the Giant Ring Star Night Ghost's disturbance.

"Good, good, good, the Chief of the Heavenly Institute did an excellent job. This time I will definitely plead for your achievements with the Lord Heavenly Emperor," Tian Congyun rejoiced inwardly.

According to Lin Shen, he not only retrieved the resources the Heavenly Emperor wanted to double, but he also swept up the private treasuries of Chi 118 and An 117, which was a tremendous achievement.

Tian Congyun was already considering how to forge better relations with this celebrity in the presence of the Heavenly Emperor, and the emerging noble of the Other Races on Sky Pinnacle Star.

"Steward Yun, I claim no merits but am burdened with guilt, and I dare not accept undue credit. I'd like to ask you to plead on my behalf with the Lord Heavenly Emperor," Lin Shen said with a sigh.

"What do you mean by that? With such an enormous achievement, how can you say you have no merits but only guilt?" Tian Congyun looked at Lin Shen with confusion, aware there must be something more to it.

"To get Chi 118 and An 117 to surrender their resources, I tore up the self-portrait of the Heavenly Emperor," Lin Shen reported truthfully.

Tian Congyun was shocked to his core, feeling as if talking to this man was like riding a rollercoaster, with sudden ups and downs that could nearly scare someone with a weak heart to death.

"Dean Tian, I cannot assist you with this issue, nor plead for mercy on your behalf. You'd better come with me to the palace and await the Heavenly Emperor's judgement," said Tian Congyun with a complex expression, ordering the resources to be taken away as well.

Lin Shen waited outside the palace to be summoned by the Heavenly Emperor, seemingly unfazed.

Before coming here, Tian Xun had already analyzed all the possible outcomes for him.

The offense he committed might not necessarily be a bad thing, and even if it wasn't something good, the worst that could happen was simply not receiving his share from the Heavenly Emperor.

Shortly after, Tian Congyun hurried out with a smile on his face, saying, "Dean Tian, the Heavenly Emperor has summoned you to the Heavenly Consort's Splendid Palace. Hurry and follow me."

"Steward Yun, about my matter..." Seeing Tian Congyun's expression, Lin Shen knew he should be safe.

"When the Heavenly Emperor heard about your affair, he said 'good' three times. Little brother, you are in luck. Don't forget about your old friend when you make it big," Tian Congyun said cheerfully.

Upon returning to the Splendid Palace, the Heavenly Emperor and Heavenly Consort were still sitting behind the beaded curtain, and Lin Shen still couldn't see the Heavenly Emperor's face.

"Tian, do you acknowledge your crime?" The majestic voice of the Heavenly Emperor came from behind the curtain.

"I acknowledge it," Lin Shen answered, sincerely alarmed.

"Since you acknowledge it, then tell us what crime you have committed," the Heavenly Emperor continued.

"I should not have desecrated Your Majesty's portrait," Lin Shen replied, head bowed.

"Hmph," the Heavenly Emperor snorted angrily, slamming his palm on the tabletop, and said furiously, "Is this how you acknowledge your crime?"

Lin Shen was instantly confounded, wondering to himself, "What's happening here? Didn't Steward Yun say the Heavenly Emperor was overjoyed? Why has it turned into rage now that I'm here? Thankfully, it's only the Heavenly Emperor who's angry, not Zhao Yun."

Thinking that, Lin Shen could only once again feign a look of sincere alarm and say, "Everything is my fault. Please, Heavenly Emperor, mete out your punishment."

"Of course, it's all your fault. You were born a millennium too late, causing me not to meet you sooner, leaving the Celestial Master Institute without a dean for over a hundred years, and depriving our Celestial Race of a pillar of strength for a thousand years. How should I punish you?" The Heavenly Emperor's voice started thunderously furious, making Lin Shen somewhat nervous, but as he proceeded, his voice carried a hint of laughter.

"Damn, this old codger really wants to scare me to death!" Lin Shen inwardly wiped away a cold sweat.

"Any punishment will do, I will accept Your Majesty's decision," Lin Shen said.

"Good... then I will punish you... to reflect behind closed doors on Celestial Star for three months," the Heavenly Emperor said with a smile.

"Dean Tian, aren't you going to thank the Heavenly Emperor for his grace?" Steward Yun reminded the unmoving and bewildered Lin Shen.

"I thank Your Majesty for your gracious punishment," Lin Shen said aloud, but inwardly, he was thinking, "What the hell? I went through so much trouble, secured you so many resources, and you want to punish me by making me reflect in seclusion?"

The Heavenly Emperor seemed to see right through Lin Shen's thoughts, and smilingly said, "It seems our Dean Tian does not understand what kind of place Celestial Star really is. My Consort, please enlighten him as to what kind of place Celestial Star truly is."
